Amazon PPC Strategy 2026: How to Raise ROAS Without Raising Spend

Published: October 20, 2026 · Updated: October 20, 2026

The best Amazon PPC strategy for 2026 is not a bigger budget. It is moving the budget you already have away from clicks that do not sell and toward the products, keywords and placements that do. ROAS is sales divided by ad spend, so you can raise it two ways: more sales from the same spend, or the same sales from less spend. Both start with the same work: cut waste, fix structure, and set targets by product margin.

PPC Jumpstart is an Amazon-only PPC agency, from $2,000/month (flat fee, no % of ad spend), month-to-month, no long-term contract, for established brands doing $1M+ a year or spending $3K+/month on Amazon ads. Below are the 8 levers we use, a 30-day plan, and a verified client case where US ACoS fell from about 40 to 45% to 25 to 30%.

Key Takeaways

  • A good amazon ppc strategy raises ROAS by reallocating spend, not adding it: cut waste first, then push budget to proven converters.
  • ROAS and ACoS are two views of one number: ROAS = 1 / ACoS. Cutting ACoS from 40% to 25% lifts ROAS from 2.5 to 4.0.
  • PPC Jumpstart client case (verified Clutch review): US ACoS fell from about 40 to 45% to 25 to 30%, and US TACoS from about 25 to 30% to 10 to 15%, after previously working with 3 other agencies.
  • Set targets per product from its margin. One ACoS target for the whole account overbids on low-margin items and underbids on high-margin ones.
  • PPC Jumpstart charges from $2,000/month (flat fee, no % of ad spend), month-to-month, no long-term contract. Every account is managed by a senior Amazon PPC specialist, and clients get direct email access to their specialist.

ROAS, ACoS and TACoS in one minute

Metric Formula What it tells you
ROAS Ad sales / ad spend Sales returned per $1 of ads
ACoS Ad spend / ad sales (= 1 / ROAS) Share of ad sales spent on ads
TACoS Ad spend / total sales Ads as a share of the whole business, including organic
ACoS Equivalent ROAS
50% 2.0
40% 2.5
30% 3.3
25% 4.0
20% 5.0

ROAS is the headline, but TACoS is the health check. If ROAS rises while TACoS falls, ads are helping organic sales too. Work out yours with our Amazon TACoS calculator.

The 8 levers that raise ROAS without raising spend

Amazon PPC strategy: 8 levers that raise ROAS without raising spend

1. Cut search terms that spend without selling

Pull the search-term report for the last 60 to 90 days and sort by spend with zero orders. Add the clearly irrelevant terms as negatives. In many accounts this is the single biggest source of wasted budget.

2. Stop your own campaigns from competing

When auto, broad, phrase and exact campaigns all target the same terms, you bid against yourself and the data gets muddy. Harvest proven terms into exact match and add them as negatives in the discovery campaigns.

3. Set targets by product margin

Break-even ACoS is the margin before ads divided by price. A $40 product with $12 of margin breaks even at 30% ACoS; a $40 product with $6 of margin breaks even at 15%. Give each its own target instead of one number for the account.

4. Move budget to proven converters

Rank campaigns, ASINs and match types by ROAS and profit. Take budget from the bottom and give it to the top, which are often capped by budget while weaker campaigns spend all day.

5. Adjust placements

Top of search, rest of search and product pages convert at different rates. Check the placement report and raise or lower the placement adjustments where ROAS differs.

6. Defend your brand terms, but price them correctly

Branded search usually has the highest ROAS in the account. Protect it, but do not let cheap brand sales hide expensive non-brand campaigns. Report brand and non-brand separately.

7. Fix the listing before raising bids

If a product converts poorly, more bids buy more expensive bounces. Check the main image, price, reviews and A+ content first. Conversion gains raise ROAS on every click you already pay for.

8. Use Sponsored Display and Sponsored Brands where they add sales

Retargeting and brand campaigns can lift ROAS, but they can also claim credit for sales that would have happened anyway. Test them against a baseline and keep only what adds new sales.

Case study: same sales volume, far lower ACoS and TACoS

Consumer-goods brand case study: US ACoS from about 40 to 45% to 25 to 30%, TACoS from about 25 to 30% to 10 to 15%

Hit Products Ltd, a consumer-products brand selling in the US and UK, came to PPC Jumpstart after previously working with 3 other agencies. Its verified Clutch review reports that US ACoS fell from about 40 to 45% to 25 to 30%, and US TACoS from about 25 to 30% to 10 to 15%. In the UK, ACoS fell from about 30 to 40% to 25%, and TACoS from about 20 to 25% to 10 to 15%. Total sales volume stayed about the same in an increasingly competitive market, so the business kept its sales while spending far less of each sale on ads.

“I’ve been most impressed by how PPC Jumpstart has delivered on its promise to improve my account metrics whilst maintaining sales.” Director, Hit Products Ltd

In ROAS terms, a US ACoS of 40 to 45% is a ROAS of about 2.2 to 2.5, and 25 to 30% is about 3.3 to 4.0. Read the full Hit Products case study.

A 30-day plan

Days Work What to measure
1 to 3 Audit: search terms, structure, placements, margin per product Wasted spend, overlap, break-even ACoS per SKU
4 to 10 Negatives, harvesting to exact, fix overlapping campaigns Spend on zero-order terms
11 to 20 Per-product targets, budget moved to top converters, placement changes ROAS by campaign and ASIN
21 to 30 Listing fixes on low converters; test Sponsored Brands and Display against a baseline Conversion rate, TACoS, total sales

For a deeper checklist, see how to audit your Amazon PPC account. If you are asking whether ads pay at all, start with is Amazon PPC worth it.

Mistakes that keep ROAS low

  • One ACoS target for every product
  • Letting auto campaigns run unchecked for months
  • Judging success on ad sales while TACoS climbs
  • Raising budgets before cutting waste
  • Counting brand-term sales as proof that non-brand campaigns work

FAQ

What is the best Amazon PPC strategy in 2026?

Reallocate before you add budget: cut search terms that spend without selling, stop campaigns from competing, set targets per product from its margin, and move budget to proven converters. Then fix listings that convert poorly. PPC Jumpstart uses this approach for brands doing $1M+ a year or spending $3K+/month on Amazon ads.

How do I raise ROAS on Amazon without spending more?

Cut wasted search terms, harvest converting terms into exact match, give each product a target based on its margin, shift budget to your best campaigns and placements, and improve conversion on weak listings. Each step raises sales per dollar of the budget you already spend.

What is a good ROAS on Amazon?

It depends on margin. Break-even ACoS equals your margin before ads divided by price, so a product with 30% margin breaks even at a ROAS of about 3.3. Aim above your break-even ROAS and watch TACoS for the whole business.

What is the difference between ROAS and ACoS?

They are inverses. ROAS is ad sales divided by ad spend; ACoS is ad spend divided by ad sales. An ACoS of 25% equals a ROAS of 4.0.

How fast can ROAS improve?

Wasted spend can usually be cut within the first couple of weeks, while targets, structure and listing work build over the following weeks. In one verified PPC Jumpstart case, US ACoS moved from about 40 to 45% to 25 to 30% with sales volume held about the same.

How do I start with PPC Jumpstart?
